Is this a “thirsty” season of life for you?  Are you a dehydrated Mom looking for a quiet moment to think, or for all your children to nap simultaneously?  Are you thirsty for meaningful conversation with your husband or maybe a simple meal with no milk or food on the floor?

Right now I’m thirsty!  Literally, thirsty!  It’s the first day of real life again after nine days enjoying solitude in the back woods of northern Wisconsin.  This morning, after dropping hubby off at the train into Chicago, I headed for the pool for a 40 minute swim…and I forgot my water bottle!  Swimming in all that water with no water to drink is incredibly ironic.

Did I quench my thirst on arriving at home?  No, I made a smoothie for breakfast, brining it along to the computer as I work.  Now it’s gone and I’m still thirsty for water.  I’ll be right back!

In the same way my body tells me it needs water, my spirit cries out, telling me it’s dry as a bone, in need of serious refreshment.

-        Dry spells in our life may say, “I feel so parched.”  But the Spirit reminds that feelings are unreliable.  God’s Word is truth!  “…whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again.” John 4:14

-        Our culture whispers to our soul “follow us, we will satisfy every desire.”  The Spirit speaks, “I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint.”  Jeremiah 31:25

-        In desperate moments, near depression and feelings of abandonment by God and others the spirit speaks, “My soul thirsts for God…Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God.” Psalm 42: 2-11

Dear ones, we don’t have to swim in unpotable spiritual waters that can not satisfy our parched souls.  We have a never ending supply of living, pure, fresh and satisfying water.  The living Word is our source!

As John Piper quoted, “Swim in the Bible every day.”

I am praying for you “Thirsty Mommas” to earnestly seek and drink freely!
